Quarterly trip to JB for contact lens dailies and ended up buying much more. Great weather, not much sun and a fuss-free clearance at the new fully air-con checkpoint. Not driving greatly reduces stress levels.

Snakes n earrings
Or 蛇舌; 蛇にピアス (Hebi ni piasu). Written by 金原瞳 (Kanehara Hitomi), who won the Akutagawa Literary Prize for this work on body piercing, body transformation (splitting up the tongue at the tip, hence the title) and SM. I was intrigued when I read about the controversy (more like furore) that arose after the book won and decided to pick it up. Read the Chinese translation. I was cringing involuntarily throughout the read and it left me very uncomfortable and disturbed. I guess she does in some way deserve the prize for her powerful writing and ability to affect, despite the less conventional themes. Think many people were more worked up over the content than her writing. That's the reaction you'd get for flinging an open can of worms into the face of the Japanese public.

CNY flower
I don't know the name of this flower but it always appears during Chinese New Year. I am intrigued by its texture, which feels like a cross between velvet and felt. The colour is also bright and somewhat lustrous, and it seems pretty hardy. I wonder if it is available outside the CNY period. I think it'd look great with some baby's breath clustered around it in a bouquet. Simple yet striking.
Camera Tee
Designed a t-shirt for hubby, for the new year. Camera painted on with black fabric paint and black satin ribbon sewn on as camera strap. White Baleno tee - $20. I like the thickness of the tee, not easy to find good quality white tees that fit well.
Gong Xi Gong Xi - from Happy
Happy in his bright red gongxi gongxi costume, wedged between the driver's and passenger seat. He was rather excited to be going along with us although he, as usual, ended up very tired and dirty after all the patting and fussing over by people.

Isetan Suupaa
I am going to miss popping by Isetan's basement supermarket any time I feel like I need to satisfy my raw fish or anything jap cravings. Like now, just swallowed 2 trays of katsuo :) Meidi-ya is so far from my new place...

Shoot Prep
Getting ready for the pre-wedding outdoor shoot on 9 Feb. The dress will be done on 5 Feb (final final) and ready for collection. Getting the stuff to DIY flowers that I like: One Stalk of Giant Sunflower, bunch of baby's breath with ribbons and pearls and a hot pink (roses) and deep purple (forget-me-nots) pomander. Maybe throw in a giant flower headpiece if I can find the right looking silk flower. That should give me several different looks with my bridal gown and my favourite yellow+green short shift dress.
Inspiration - A Cup of Jo
I chanced upon this blog when I was reading Garance Dore. Little things captured in Jo's blog inspire me, from fashion to home decor. The general feel is sunny and a little quirky, plus there is always something refreshing to read whenever I tune in.

Change
Forgot about the blog for the past week cos my week was just turned upside down. I am in a transition process that was kickstarted by me and I ended up being completely overtaken by events. I am kinda left feeling a bit breathless and whoozy, and it caused me great stress and some irritation. I do not like being rushed along or be forced to make a snap decision. And I think my irritation showed up in the form of..well some huffing. To anyone else, I'd have slammed the brakes, reversed gear and left them coughing at my smoke.
道德经
I'm Taoist, according to my birth certificate. It's something I'm used to putting down under the "religion" category in those ubiquitous application forms for anything related to the Government. But I'm not Taoist in the way a Christian is a Christian or a Muslim is a Muslim. I do not see Taoism as a religion but as a philosophy: simple wisdom to guide my life.

Difficult things of the world can only be tackled when they are easy. Great things of the world can only be achieved by attending to their small beginnings. Thus the Sage never has to grapple with great things, yet he alone is capable of achieving them. He who promises lightly must lack trustworthiness. He who thinks everything is easy will end by finding everything difficult. Therefore the Sage, who regards everything as difficult, meets with no difficulties in the end.

C30
Coupe hatchbacks are my favourite cos they combine cool with sporty. First, I had my eyes on 130i and now? Move over, 130i. I did not take much notice of the C30 until I caught it in the Twilight movie. It made me sit up for the way it was driven in the show: it was sharp, nimble and very stable. The last quality is something one can always expect from a Volvo, on top of its stodgy, clunky image. But a Volvo that is sharp and nimble didn't really exist, until C30 came along. $130k for a 2.5l turbo engine is a better deal than 130i and yes, I'm pretty much sold on it (and I cannot quite believe I'm talking about a Volvo, still).

LIFE: The American Journey of Obama
Great photography. And HARRIS was having 25% off. The photos bring out a man whose life says: nothing is impossible.
